Sir Thomas Nugent,
of Carlanstown, Co.Westmeath.
Descendant of Edward I and of Aoife Mac Murrough and of Brian Boru.
He mar Elizabeth Fleming and had issue:


Robert Nugent,
had issue:


Edmund Nugent,
died early, at Carlanstown, Aug 1599,
had issue:


Robert Nugent,
born in 1591-99.
He was active in 1641 Rebellion.
Lands in Co.Westmeath confiscated. He was transplanted to Co.Clare.
He (or his son) later got lands restored.
He had issue:


Edmond Nugent,
born c.1646.
He mar Clara Cusack.
MP for Mullingar 1689.
He died 1704.
They had issue:


  1. Michael Nugent,
    of Carlanstown, Co.Westmeath.
    He mar his distant cousin Mary Barnewall [dau of Robert Barnewall, 9th Baron Trimlestown].
    She is descendant of Sir Christopher Nugent, son of 3rd Baron Delvin.
    He died 1739.
    They had issue:


    1. Robert Nugent, 1st Earl Nugent,
      born 1702 or 1709.
      His agent was John MacNamara.
      He was cr Viscount Clare 1767.
      In 1769 he built Clare Hill (now Cabinteely House), Cabinteely, Co.Dublin.
      He was cr Earl Nugent 1776.
      He died 1788.
      He had issue:

      1. Mary Nugent, born 1758.
        She mar 1775 to George Nugent-Temple-Grenville, 1st Marquess of Buckingham [born 1753].
        He was George Grenville at marriage.
        He became 3rd Earl Temple in 1779 and took the name Nugent-Temple-Grenville.
        Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1782-1783.
        He created the Order of St Patrick in 1783.
        He was cr Marquess in 1784.
        Lord Lieutenant of Ireland again in 1787-1789.
