Rev. James Somerville,
Dr. James Somerville,
born Oct 1747, Carnwath, Lanarkshire.
He was educ University of Edinburgh.
Minister of the Scots Church, Rotterdam, 1775 to 1779.
Minister of Whitburn, West Lothian, 1779 to 1789.
He married 3 Aug 1780 to Anna Yeats.
Her family were Scottish merchants who had been in Holland (and had worshipped at the Scots Church, Rotterdam).

Minister at the Church of the Holy Rude at Stirling, 1789 to his death 1817.
Minister of the "Second Charge" at Stirling 1789 to 1793.
Minister of the "First Charge" (senior minister) at Stirling 1793 to 1817.
Doctor in Theology (D.D.), Aberdeen, 1803.
He died at Stirling, 23 Jan 1817, age 69 yrs.
He was bur 28 Jan 1817 at Stirling.

Anna died 17 Apr 1839.

  1. Elizabeth Somerville,
    bapt 23 June 1781, Whitburn.
    She died young.


  2. Katherine Somerville,
    Katherine Agnew Somerville, bapt 7 Jan 1783, Whitburn.
    She mar 17 Apr 1809 to James Porteous [of Bonhill, Jamaica].


  3. Barbara Somerville,
    bapt 1 Aug 1784, Whitburn.
    She died 28 Feb 1802, age 17 yrs.
    She was buried with the Gibbon graves at Nigg Bay, Aberdeen. No gravestone.


  4. Alexander Somerville,
    Alexander Martine Somerville, bapt 15 Aug 1786, Whitburn.
    Commissary General, Jamaica.


  5. Hannah Somerville.
    She mar 30 Nov 1814 to James Kippen.
    He was a merchant, of Greenock.


  6. Wilhelmina Somerville,
    born 2 June 1792.
