Donal Mor O'Connell

Donal Mor O'Connell.

Lived at Derrynane, near Waterville, Co.Kerry.
He died Sept 1770.
He was buried at Derrynane Abbey.
Maire died at a great age.
The tomb at Derrynane Abbey said she survived her husband by 22 years, i.e. died 1792.
[Burkes Irish, 1976] prints the date 1792. But letter of 7 Feb 1968 says this is a "mistake".
Letter of 28 Jan 1967 says she died c.19 Mar 1795.
She was buried at Derrynane Abbey.
They had issue:

1. Maurice O'Connell, "Hunting Cap",
   born 1728.
   A prosperous smuggler in the far W of Kerry.

   Lived at Derrynane.
   He died 1825.
   He was buried at Derrynane Abbey.

   
   

2. Morgan O'Connell, born 1739.

   He mar 1771 to Catherine O'Mullane [Kate, born 1752].
   Lived at Carhen, near Caherciveen, Co.Kerry.
   He died 27 May 1809.
   She died 1817.
   They had issue:

   
   

   1. Daniel O'Connell
      "The Liberator",
      born 6 Aug 1775.

      
      

   2. John O'Connell,
      born 6 May 1778.
      Settled at Grena (later called Grenagh), Killarney, Co.Kerry.
      He mar 1806 to Elizabeth Coppinger.
      He fought a duel in 1813 with Richard Francis Blennerhassett. He was seriously injured, but survived.
      He gave evidence at Rowan Cashel trial, 1816.
      He died 6 Sept 1853, age 75 yrs.
      John and Elizabeth had issue:
      1. Morgan John O'Connell, MP,
         born 1811.

         He mar 1865 to Mary Anne Bianconi [born 1840] and had issue.
         She researched her husband's family tree.
         He died 1875.
         She was author of The last colonel of the Irish Brigade, 1892.
         She died 1908.

      
      

   3. Sir James O'Connell, 1st Baronet,
      born 1786.

   
   

   1. Mary O'Connell.
      She mar 1791 to Jeremiah McCartie and had issue.

   2. Honoria O'Connell.
      She mar Daniel O'Sullivan and had issue.

      
      

   3. Ellen O'Connell.
      She mar 1803 to Daniel O'Connell ("Splinter") and had issue.
      As the brother-in-law of the Liberator, he has been confused as the brother of the Liberator's wife. But this is false. He is the husband of the Liberator's sister, and also the 1st cousin of the Liberator's wife.

      Biddy.
      She mar c.1804 to Myles McSwiney and had issue.

      
      

   5. Alicia O'Connell,
      Ally.
      She mar 1812 to William Finn, MP [William Francis Finn].

      
      

   6. Catherine O'Connell,
      Kitty, Kate.
      She mar 19 Oct 1805 to Humphrey Moynihan and had issue.

The already ruined Carhen House (or Carhan House) on 1829 to 1842 map.
