William Humphreys of Doonane

William Humphreys,
William David Humphreys,
of Doonane, Co.Tipperary.
Thought to be born c.1803.
Father thought to be David but this is uncertain.
He may be identical with William Humphrys baptised in 1799, the son of Michael Humphrys of Doonane.
See entry in tree by Nylah Jimenez.

He mar c.1824 to Johanna Ryan [born c.1804, poss. Joanna].
She was probably born in Co.Tipperary, daughter of Nicholas Ryan and Margaret Wadick.
She was possibly born in Corran, Co.Sligo.
At mar he was age 21 and she was age 20.
Children bapt in Newport 1825 to 1836.
Listed at Doonane at children's baptisms 1825 to 1834. And again in 1847.

He is probably identical with the following, unless there is another William of Doonane:
"William Humphreys" is the only person listed at Doonane in [Tithe Survey, 1827]. He holds 80 acres.
"William Humphreys", farmer, of Doonane, is listed in list of voters for Co.Tipperary published in the Nenagh Guardian, January 4, 1840.

William and Johanna's children were bapt in Ballinahinch 1840 to 1847. This does not indicate any move from Doonane. Rather it indicates the Ballinahinch church opening in 1839.
They are listed at Doonane at son's bapt 1847.
William died at Doonane in 1846-1848 (we allow for a posthumous birth of the last child). This was during the Famine.
He was buried at Killoscully.
Johanna is listed at Doonane after him.
"Johanna Humphreys" is listed in [Griffiths Valuation, 1848] at Doonane. She is renting 22 acres, no house.
"Johanna Humphreys" is listed in [Griffiths Valuation, 1850] at Doonane. She is renting 22 acres, no house. The record then adjusts the valuation by adding all land and houses in Doonane to her entry.

Johanna emigrated to America:
These were tough, famine years. She packed up, took children to new life in America.
She sailed to Philadelphia 1850.
She died 12 Oct 1868, Washoe City, Nevada.
She was bur Washoe City cemetery.
