Thomas Fitzmaurice of Cosfoyle
is named as father of Elizabeth Fitzmaurice and Mrs. Fagan.

Thomas Fitzmaurice,
of
Cosfoyle or Cosfealy, Co.Kerry.
This is the old name for
Duagh (Duaghnafealla), Co.Kerry.
He had issue:
-
Elizabeth Fitzmaurice,
born 1725.
O'CONNELL in [Burkes Irish, 1976]
has her as
"Ellen" but this is wrong.
Edward Tuohy's will 1785 says "Elizabeth".
Her grand-daughter's
marriage settlement 1801
says she is "Elizabeth".
She mar Edward Tuohy
and had issue.
- Christian Fitzmaurice.
She mar Patrick Fagan [son of Capt. Christopher Fagan] and had issue.
See
[Hickson, 1872]
for their descendants.

Fitzmaurice of Duagh
The evidence that this family is from Cosfealy, Co.Kerry:
Cosfealy is the old name for Duagh, Co.Kerry.
So this family must be related to the main family of
Fitzmaurice of Duagh.
The latter family are
claimed to descend from
Fitzmaurice, Baron Kerry
(family of Marquis of Lansdowne).
-
Basil O'Connell in
letter of 21 July 1969
seems to say Elizabeth Fitzmaurice might be
of the family of Fitzmaurice of Duagh.
-
[Cusack, 1872, p.780]
says: "The mother of the Liberator's wife was a Miss Fitzmaurice, of Lixnaw, of the
same family as the Marquis of Lansdowne."
She would mean the grandmother.
- [O'Connell, vol.2, 1892]
says the Tuohy family story was that Elizabeth Fitzmaurice was said to be descended from
the disinherited 14th century "Blind Lord",
William FitzMaurice,
son of Nicholas FitzMaurice, 2nd Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw.
-
Obviously there is a 400 year gap there.
We need to start with Thomas Fitzmaurice and identify records for him.
Cosfealy is the old name for Duagh.

Our Elizabeth is not the dau of Ulick Fitzmaurice
In the family of
Fitzmaurice of Duagh
there is an Elizabeth Fitzmaurice, born 1726,
dau of
Ulick Fitzmaurice
of Duagh and Tryphena Blennerhassett.
This is an extract from
[Burkes Irish, 1976].
The age is right for our Elizabeth Fitzmaurice who married Edward Tuohy.
However, this Elizabeth Fitzmaurice seems to be wife of William Jeffcott.
It is not our Elizabeth.

[Bernard, 1922].
Further extract from p.64 of
[Bernard, 1922].
This covers the will of William Jeffcott, born 1764, son of William Jeffcott and Elizabeth Fitzmaurice.
This William died 1807 and left small amounts to his Fitzmaurice cousins.
Fagan
Christian Fitzmaurice who married Patrick Fagan.
