Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte, and the 10th Earl of Pembroke
Bridgerton (2020 on),
filmed partly at Wilton House,
is a strange American show where much of Regency England is multi-ethnic,
like modern America.
It showcases the ludicrous crank history theory that
Queen Charlotte
was a black woman.
Why mention this?
After all, some of the other movies and shows above are strange too.
I mention it because:
People actually believe this crank history theory about Queen Charlotte.
In fact, because of Bridgerton,
it is probably becoming the most widely believed fake history
about this period.
The 10th Earl of Pembroke and his family were actually close to the real Queen Charlotte.
So it is odd to see an imaginary American version of Queen Charlotte being filmed at his house.
The 10th Earl was a Lord of the Bedchamber to George III.
His wife was Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Charlotte.
The King and Queen stayed with them at Wilton House on their
1778 visit.
They arrived at Wilton on Wed 30 Sept 1778 and stayed two nights.
They left on Fri 2 Oct 1778.
Letters survive from the Queen to the family in
WSHC 2057/F4/47.
The 10th Earl and his wife would have been baffled by this bizarre show.
