James Leslie,
born 1678,
of Tarbert, Co.Kerry.

He mar Sarah Kelly.
He died 1723.
They had issue:


  1. Sarah Leslie,
    mar 1728 to John Rowan and had issue.


  2. Rev. James Leslie, born 1707,
    of Tarbert House.
    Bishop of Limerick 1755-1770.
    He died 1770.
    He had issue:

    1. Sir Edward Leslie, 1st (and only) Baronet,
      bapt at Durham on 5 Jan 1746. See p.20 of published Durham parish records.
      Succeeded to Tarbert House 1770.
      He mar 1773 to Anne Cane.
      He founded the Tarbert Regiment 1779 (disbanded 1793).
      His agent at Tarbert in at least 1785 to 1802 was Joseph Lindsay.
      MP for Old Leighlin 1787.
      He was cr Baronet 1787.
      Founded the Tarbert Cavalry 1796.
      Founded the Tarbert Infantry (Fencibles) 1799 (disbanded 1802).
      He died 1818, Weymouth, Dorset, age 72 yrs. See p.573 of [The Gentleman's magazine, 1818].
      Baronetcy extinct. Tarbert House inherited by his 1st cousin.
      Anne died at Bath, 1821.
      They had issue:

      1. Catherine Louisa Leslie, born 1777,
        "Louisa" in letters,
        mar 1807 to Lord Douglas Gordon-Hallyburton [son of Charles Gordon, 4th Earl of Aboyne and half-brother of George Gordon, 9th Marquess of Huntly],
        no issue.


  3. Robert Leslie, born c.1712,
    of Leslie Lodge, near Tarbert,
    built Leslie Lodge 1740s,
    mar Aphra Babington,
    had issue:


    1. Alice Leslie,
      mar 1770 to Thomas Wren and had issue.


    2. Robert Leslie,
      of Leslie Lodge.
      He mar 1790 to Anne Crosbie [Frances Anne Crosbie, dau of Pierce Crosbie and Frances Bateman].
      See CROSBIE in [Burkes Irish, 1976].
      Robert is listed as of Leslie Lodge at son Pierce's baptism 1795 and son Francis' baptism 1796 and dau Frances' baptism 1798 (must have died) and dau Frances' baptism 1807.
      Moves to Tarbert House in 1807-1814 (probably c.1810):
      He inherited Tarbert House from his 1st cousin Sir Edward Leslie. He moved from Leslie Lodge into Tarbert House before Sir Edward died.
      He is still in Leslie Lodge in 1807. [Paddy Waldron] says moved into Tarbert House c.1810. He is gone from Leslie Lodge in 1810.
      Listed at Tarbert House in [Leet's Directory, 1814].
      Finally inherited Tarbert House when Sir Edward died 1818.
      He possibly died in 1820-1823.
      Robert and Anne had issue:


      1. Robert Leslie,
        of Tarbert House, born 1792.
        "Robert Leslie junior" is listed as of Tarbert House in 1816 in [Vestry Minutes Book, Kilnaughtin].
        Captain of Tarbert Yeomanry in 1821.
        He and William Lindsay worked together in policing actions in the Agrarian Rebellion of 1821-1824.
        He mar 1823 to Margaret Sandes [descendant of Edward III].
        He died 1827, age 35 yrs.
        Robert and Margaret had issue:

        1. Robert Leslie,
          of Tarbert House, born 1825.


      2. Pierce Leslie, born 1795,
        lived "Woodlands", on the Listowel road, Tarbert,
        had issue:

        1. Frances Crosbie Leslie, born 1843,
          mar 1868 to Gabriel Holmes Pielou [pron. "Pilloo"] and had issue:

          1. Pierce Leslie Pielou, born 1870,
            author of [Pielou, 1935].
