Ebrill of Australia

Frankie Tormey says there was some scandal and a John Ebrill from our family was sent away by his family (not by the state) to Australia, and was ancestor of Ebrill of New South Wales, Australia.

• It CANNOT be either of these two, since both are accounted for:
  • John Ebrill, born 1824.
  • John Ebrill, born 1871.

• Carmel Ebrill came across a reference to an Ebrill who was deported (by the state) to Australia for stealing silver buckles.
• John Ebrill says there was a "John Ebrill" shipped to Australia around 1847 (or poss. 1780).
• Daniel Ebrill of our family emigrated to Australia after 1913, and died in Kyogle, New South Wales, in 1943.
• There is a considerable Ebrill community in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia.

• UK Ebrills who went to Australia (probably not related to the Irish Ebrills):

• Anne Abril,
  mar 1 Oct 1800 [St.Mary's CoI cathedral, Limerick] to James Tinnegar (or James Finnegar).

• Catherine Ebril,
  mar 14 June 1805 [St.Michael's, Limerick] to John Bradford.
  Think this is St.Michael's CoI, not St.Michael's RC, since RC records for 1805 seem missing. And here.

  
  

• Thomas Abriel.
  Serjeant, L.C.M. (Limerick City Militia or Limerick County Militia).
  He is listed among the Freeman of Limerick on 15 Feb 1813.
  He must be Serjeant Abriel who is listed in Limerick Chronicle, Thursday, July 17, 1817, as voting for John Vereker (future 3rd Viscount Gort) as MP for Limerick city in by-election 1817.
  Explanation: Charles Vereker was MP for Limerick. He was re-elected in 1812 general election. In 1817 he became 2nd Viscount Gort, so a by-election was held. His son John Vereker (future 3rd Viscount) stood and won, and was MP for Limerick 1817-1820.
  Note that (landed) Catholics got the right to vote (though not to sit in parliament) in 1793.

  He played bridge for Dublin and Ireland:
  • He won the Davidson Cup - National Pairs Championship - in 1938 (must be Jan).
  • He won the Wigoder Cup, Jan 1938.
