Map of Greenhills properties

Alderman Michael Flanagan built up a vast estate across SW Co.Dublin, starting in the 1860s, and reaching a size of nearly 500 acres for the 1895-1925 period. The Alderman died in 1931.

These maps show his Greenhills properties.

"Michael Flanagan" is still listed as owning a huge amount of property at Greenhills in [Thom's, 1960], nearly 30 years after the death of the Alderman.
Flanagan is finally gone from Greenhills in [Thom's, 1962-63].

Plot 7

Plot 7 on map in [VO] of unclear date.
The Alderman leased a property at Greenhills from Charles Donagh in [Deed of 1870]. Apparently this is plot 7.
The Flanagan family farm is plot 15.
See full size.

Plot 5

John Flanagan (who seems to be a relation) held this plot, on the Greenhills Road, in Kilnamanagh townland, in Tallaght parish.
"John Flanagan" is listed in [Griffiths Valuation, 1847] as renting plot 4 in Kilnamanagh, 8 acres with a house, from "Reps. of H. Hudson" (i.e. the heirs of Hartley Hodson who died 1839).
"John Flanagan" is listed in [Griffiths Valuation, 1850] as renting plot 5 in Kilnamanagh, 8 acres with a house, from "Reps. H. Hudson".
"John Flanagan" is the only Flanagan listed at Greenhills in [Thom's] 1850 to 1873.
As soon as John Flanagan vanishes from the listing, "William Flanagan" starts being listed.
"William Flanagan" is the only Flanagan listed at Greenhills in [Thom's] 1874 to 1889. This would be William Flanagan junior.

The John Flanagan farm (plot 5) on map in [VO] of unclear date.
This map matches [Griffiths Valuation, 1850] exactly. (Where plot 5 is larger than plot 6 which is larger than plot 4.)
The John Flanagan farm is just up the road (to the N) of the William Flanagan farm, which is visible as plot 15 at the bottom here.

See original.

In the 1887 to 1913 map the whole plot is gravel pits (though the house at the road is still there).
The Alderman later owned the land on the E side of this plot.
In the modern map the area has been completely cleared for industrial use.

This gateway on the Greenhills Rd is the site of the John Flanagan house.
