of Ballyane, near Shanagolden, Co.Limerick.

Listed at mar as farmer, of Shanagolden.
He mar 14 Nov 1871 to Margaret Frost [bapt 7 Oct 1846].
James Nolan, Ballyane, is listed in [Postal Directory of Munster, 1886].
Listed as "farmer", Ballyane, at dau's birth 1889.

James dies, 1890:
He died 25 July 1890 at Ballyane, age 59 yrs.

James is later listed as late of Shanagolden at son's marriage in Dublin 1899. Listed as late of Ballyane at son's death 1919.
Listed as "farmer" at son's mar 1916 and son's mar cert 1923.

Margaret remarries, 1899:
She is listed at Ballyane at 2nd mar.
She re-married 1899 to her husband's 1st cousin James Nolan of Waterpark. No issue. They lived Ballyane House.
The first James Nolan and Margaret had issue:


  1. Mary Nolan,
    Mary T.J. Nolan, bapt "Mariam", 17 July 1875 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp James Nolan and Anna Nolan.
    She mar 13 June 1899, Shanagolden, to Joe Lyons [Joseph A. Lyons, son of Daniel Lyons, of Ballytigue House, Bruree, Co.Limerick].

    He is described as of Rathkeale at mar.
    He was a vet, M.R.C.V.S.
    They had issue:

    1. Josie Lyons, born 1902.
      "Josephine Lyons" wit mar of her aunt Laura Nolan in 1921.
      She mar Sydney Corbould Taylor, no issue.
      She died 1960, age 58 yrs, think bur Rathkeale.
      He fl 1960.


  2. Cornelius Nolan,
    Conn, Con, of Creeves,
    "Cornelius J. Nolan" at 2nd mar,
    born 19 Aug 1876, Co.Limerick,
    bapt 22 Aug 1876 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Laurence Frost and Julia Nolan.


  3. Catherine Nolan, born Co.Limerick,
    Kate, Kitty, "Gypsy", born 20 June 1878,
    bapt 21 June 1878 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Michael Nolan and Catherine Nolan,
    living with her re-married mother in 1901 census,
    mar Walker Casey [of Rathkeale] and had issue:

    1. "Togo" Casey [son],
      studied medicine at "Dublin University" but died before qualified.


  4. James Nolan,
    born 8 Jan 1880, Ballyane,
    bapt 8 Jan 1880 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Robert Ryan and Anna Nolan.
    He died at Punchbowl House (his grandfather's house), 6 June 1892, age 12 yrs.

  5. Annie Nolan,
    born Co.Limerick,
    bapt "Anna", 15 Sept 1881 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp James Nolan and Catherine Ryan,
    living with her re-married mother in 1901 census,
    went to Ceylon,
    bursar to a convent in Colombo, possibly a nun herself.


  6. Laura Nolan,
    Laura H. Nolan, born Co.Limerick,
    bapt 18 Mar 1883 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Cornelius Nolan and Anna Nolan.
    Living with her re-married mother in 1901 census and 1911 census.
    At mar she is living Cloghanarold, Co.Limerick.
    She mar 5 February 1921, St.Joseph's church, Limerick, to Willie Fenton [William, Willy, son of Michael Fenton, farmer].

    At mar William is commercial traveller, living Derawlin, Bruree, Co.Limerick.
    Think he lived in Limerick.
    Laura was "killed crossing the road at night while going to play a game of cards" [Bobby Ryan]. The story was she was killed by a priest driving a car and the priest was a Madigan, a distant relative.
    Laura and William had issue:

    1. Michael Fenton.


  7. Joe Nolan,
    Joseph, born Co.Limerick,
    bapt 15 June 1884 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp James McDonnell and Catherine McDonnell.
    Living unmarried with his re-married mother in 1901 census and 1911 census.
    Listed as "farmer" at mar, living Shanagolden area (spelt wrong).
    He mar 28 Sept 1916, Dublin, to Mary O'Brien [born 23 Feb 1885].
    They lived at Cloghanarold (Glenarold), Co.Limerick.
    He is listed at mother's funeral 1922.
    He might be "J. Nolan" who is listed as nephew of Julia Nolan at her funeral 1926.
    Mary died 1964.
    Joseph died 1967.
    Joseph and Mary had issue:


    1. William Nolan,
      William Joseph Nolan, Willie,
      born Mar 1920 at Glenarold.
      Can't find birth in [GROI].
      KIA serving in the RAF in WW2 in 1940.


    2. Kitty Nolan,
      Catherine, born 1921,
      wrote Mar 1995 letter about family tree,
      died 13 Nov 1995, age 74 yrs.

    3. Joe Nolan,
      Joseph, born 1924,
      died 2010.

    4. Jimmy Nolan,
      James, born 1928,
      said to be eldest, and moved to England, but this may be confusion with William.

    5. John Nolan, born 1930,
      died 1991.


  8. Thomas Nolan, Tom, born Co.Limerick,
    bapt 25 Sept 1885 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Thomas Nolan and Margaret Nolan,
    living with his re-married mother in 1901 census,
    went to USA.


  9. John Nolan,
    possibly "Sean",
    born Co.Limerick, youngest son,
    bapt 4 Sept 1887 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Rev. Thomas Lynch(?) and Catherine McDonnell.
    Living with his re-married mother in 1901 census.
    Living with his re-married mother in 1911 census.
    Lived Cloghanarold, just W of Rathkeale, Co.Limerick.
    He died at his house, Cloghanarold, 9 Jan 1919, age 31 yrs.

    See death cert from here. He is farmer, unmarried. He died of "septic pneumonia".
    Funeral Fri 10 Jan, bur "family burial ground", Knockpatrick, Co.Limerick.


  10. Charlotte Nolan,
    Charlotte Mary Nolan, Lottie, born 15 Aug 1889, Ballyane.
    See birth cert from here. Seems to say born 30 Aug but baptism date says that is wrong.
    She was bapt 20 Aug 1889 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Thomas Frost and Charlotte Frost.
    Living with her re-married mother in 1901 census and 1911 census.
    She mar c.1917, England, to Robert Ryan [apparently born 19 Apr, year unknown, brother of Jim Ryan].
    His mother was a Frost, some relation of her mother.
    They mar in Lancashire, in the chapel of a Catholic school that was later demolished.
    Charlotte died swimming in 1939, age 50 yrs.
    They had issue:

    1. Kitty Ryan, did not marry.
    2. Bobby Ryan.
    3. Peter Ryan, died in infancy.

    
    
    There is an unidentified child Annie Nolan (born 1896, daughter of Nolan and Nash) at Cloghanarold as at 1901.
