  • Fr. Edward O'Dwyer is an old friend. Stephen addresses him as "My Dear Father Ned". Fr. O'Dwyer's appointment as Bishop has just been announced. (He was formally appointed Bishop on 18 May 1886.)

• Invite sent to Stephen O'Mara (then High Sheriff of Limerick City) to a lunch hosted by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, 3 Feb 1888. It was a lunch to meet the Marquess of Ripon, who was a convert to Catholicism and a supporter of Home Rule.

  • Sophie is about to marry (on 11 June 1890) the Irish nationalist William O'Brien, MP, and Ellen has sent some lace to her for the wedding.
