James Nolan is the only Nolan in Co.Limerick listed as actually owning his land in [Owners of Land, 1876].



James Nolan,
born 1821 or 1822.

His father died 1833.
He ultimately inherited Waterpark, Shanagolden, Co.Limerick.
He mar 1853 to Catherine Nolan [born 1830 or 1832, of Kilbane near Limerick city].
Living Waterpark at dau's birth 1867.
He would be "James Nolan" who wit Ellen Mangan's mar 1868.
James Nolan, of "Parkwater", Shanagolden, is listed as owning 85 acres in [Owners of Land, 1876].
James Nolan of Waterpark is listed at Month's Mind for Tim Madigan 1876.
James Nolan, Shanid lower, listed in [Postal Directory of Munster, 1886].
James Nolan, of Waterpark, is mentioned in Limerick Leader, first issue, Fri 9 Aug 1889: "At a large and enthusiastic meeting of the parishioners of Shanagolden, Robertstown and Foynes, held at Shanagolden - Mr. James Nolan, of Waterpark, presiding - it was resolved to present their late curate, Rev. John Ryan, now P.P of Glenroe, with an address and testimonial, expressing the deep love and veneration in which he was held during the many years he laboured so zealously amongst them."

James dies, 1897:
He is listed as "gentleman farmer" at "Shanid Upper" (should be Shanid Lower) at death.
He died Waterpark, 26 Jan 1897, age 75 [death notice] or 24 Jan 1897, age 76 [GROI].

He is listed as "farmer (dead)" at son's mar 1899.

Catherine is listed in 1901 census as widow, "farmer", at Waterpark, Shanid Lower. She is running the farm with her unmarried children. They have two servants living with them. She is listed as age 69.

Catherine dies, 1901:
She died Waterpark, 15 May 1901, age 69 or 71 yrs.

    She died 18 Nov 1868 [newspaper report], age 14 yrs.
    Can't find death in [GROI].

    Funeral 20 Nov 1868, bur Ballysimon, near Limerick city (her mother's homeland).
    Grave readings here and here both think grave says died 19 Nov 1868.

  3. Annie Nolan,
    Anne, born Waterpark [birth notice],
    bapt "Anna", 23 July 1856 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp John Nolan and Alice Nolan.

    "Annie M Nolan" reported her sister Helena's death 1884.
    At home in 1901 census, unmarried, age given must be inaccurate.
    She registered her mother's death 1901. She is unmarried, living Waterpark.
    Listed as of Waterpark at mar. Both parents dead.
    She mar 23 November 1909 [her age 53] to John Finucane. No issue.
    At mar he is farmer, widower, of "Dromroe-Plassy", E of Limerick city (now area of UL). Son of James Finucane, farmer.
    They mar at St.Joseph's RC church, Limerick city. See mar cert from here.
    [Jim Nolan tree] is wrong to say she married "T. Molane".

    She was at Clashganniff House when her nephew Capt. Tim Madigan was shot by the RIC, 28 Dec 1920. See [Donovan, 2010].
    Listed as aunt at Mary Nolan's funeral 1935.
    Listed as sister at Thomas Nolan's funeral 1936.

    inherited Waterpark.


  6. Alice Mary Nolan, born 1860,
    described at death as 4th dau,
    bapt "Alice", 20 Mar 1860 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp James Nolan and Anna Frost.
    She died unmarried, 29 Aug 1881, at Waterpark House, age 21 yrs, of "phthisis pulmonalis".

    bapt 13 Aug 1864 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Michael Nolan and Catherine Nolan.


  9. Margaret Nolan,
    "Daisy", born 27 Sept 1865, Waterpark,
    grave says born 4 Jan 1865, but then baptism could not be Sept,
    either grave or baptism date must be wrong,
    bapt 29 Sept 1865 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp James Nolan and Maria Nolan.
    She mar Thomas T. Madigan and had issue.


  10. Helena Nolan,
    Helena M. Nolan, born 18 Feb 1867, Waterpark, see birth in [GROI],
    described at death as 3rd surviving dau,
    bapt Helen, 20 Feb 1867 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Thomas Nolan and Anna Nolan.
    She died unmarried, 24 Aug 1884, age 17 yrs, at Waterpark House, of "phthisis pulmonalis".

    She was bapt 14 Aug 1868 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp by William Nolan and Margaret Frost. See entry.
    She mar 1899 to her 1st cousin's son Cornelius Nolan and had issue.


  12. Cornelius Nolan,
    bapt 29 Jan 1870 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp James Nolan and Agnes Nolan,
    at funeral of his uncle John Nolan in 1895,
    alive at funeral of his father 1897.


  13. William Nolan,
    Willie, William Joseph Nolan,

    publican in Dublin,
    Willie Nolan the publican was remembered to be of Waterpark.


  14. Frank Nolan, born 1872, Co.Limerick,
    can't find bapt in [Shanagolden RC par records],
    at home in 1901 census,
    Frank Nolan of Waterpark is listed as nephew of Margaret Nolan at her death 1903,
    listed at funeral of Thomas Madigan 1904,
    was in business in Limerick,
    died fairly young.


  15. Patrick Nolan,
    Patrick J., Pat,
    born 16 Jan 1873, Waterpark (mother age 40 or 42), see birth in [GROI],
    bapt Patrick, 19 Jan 1873 [Shanagolden RC par records], sp Michael Nolan and Catherine Fitzgerald.
    He went to Dublin with his brother William, who ran a pub there.
    He is living at his brother William's pub in Dublin at his brother's marriage in 1899.
    Listed in 1901 census as unmarried, living at his brother William's pub in Dublin. He is assistant in the pub.
    Patrick Nolan of St.Michael's Hill, Dublin (his brother's pub) is listed as nephew of Margaret Nolan at her death 1903.
    "Patrick Nolan" wit his brother Thomas' mar in Dublin in 1906.

    He mar 6 Feb 1907, Limerick, to Mary Mulqueen [born 1883, Co.Limerick, daughter of James Mulqueen, of Corcamore]. No issue.

    They lived at Kiltemplan, near Patrickswell, Co.Limerick.
    They are listed at Kiltemplan in 1911 census. He is "farmer". They have one servant, and a Michael Mulqueen (age 75) lives with them.
    "Patrick Nolan" is listed as cousin of Rev. Mortimer McCoy at his funeral 1927.
    "Mr and Mrs P. Nolan" of "Kiltemplin" are listed as uncle and aunt of Mary Nolan at her death 1935.
    He is listed at his brother Thomas' funeral 1936.
